Normally, it's not the cover art that reels me in. However, one peek at the male on the cover "Taken by Love" and I decided his picture should be in the dictionary as the definition of "eye candy" - no further definition in words needed. Thank goodness it's a book cover as I know I was staring! Staring at one hot, handsome, fit, sexy male with incredible eyes. Did I mention hot? Oh my! I couldn't wait to discover more about him and the lucky woman that had undoubtedly caught his eye as illustrated by that captivating glance over his shoulder. I turned to Chapter 1 and met DEA Agent Arden Jones and his girlfriend Lucy Farris, owner of a florist shop in Seattle.

"Taken by Love" has everything that a reader wants to savor in romantic suspense - romance and page-turning suspense in riveting situations that could be torn from the headlines. This romance also delights with terrific humor.

Here are two (2) of my absolute favorites of Lucy's humor. I was giggling out loud.

I teased Arden when I opened the latest gift from him, a book called The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook. I'd read the cover and laughed. The book included how to escape quicksand and wrestle an alligator. I rarely traveled and I'd never seen an alligator in Washington, except maybe in a zoo, and I didn't intend to climb into the reptile enclosure.

Arden smiled and kissed me softly. "Honey, accidents happen. You need to be prepared."

I need to spend more quality time on the treadmill, not casually walking while reading the latest gossip magazine. Because running several blocks shouldn't have me gulping for air for God's sake.

It's also a special treat to find two (2) wonderful features that have been in each short story I've read by Sharon Kleve. The first special treat in addition to the wonderful human characters in each story is that the reader is always treated to an introduction of extraordinary pets. This time the pets are Siamese cats, Aldo and Hades, and I wish I could meet them in person. The wish is due to Sharon's wonderful descriptions of the cats from their "pitter-pattering" to the descriptions of their actions in expressing disapproval to their "freight train purring". Every cat owner will be instantly smiling and nodding their head, reaching down to pet their little fur face curled up alongside them for reading time. At the end of each story, Sharon Kleve shares her "Love of Animals". The second treat of each story is that one of the deliciously described foods mentioned in the story becomes the feature recipe at the end of the eBook. Both of these special treats help to give the magical and personal insight to the author's heart and home that is so obviously filled with love. How lucky for us as readers that she's sharing her love with us through each written story.

I'm so delighted that this story is being introduced as the first in a series as I can't wait to learn the next steps for Arden and Lucy. It seems a guarantee following their adventures will be exciting and always fun!

Arden Jones is a DEA Agent who is called in to help in the attack to take down a major Mexican cartel. The attack was a success, but there were survivors. Arden finds an SD card on his bed that contains photos of not only him but intimate picture of him with his girlfriend Lucy. With her now in danger, Arden takes drastic measures to protect her. But his enemies don't give up easily and Lucy will have to find her own inner strength to make it back to Arden.

In Taken by Love, Arden's work comes home with him and puts his girlfriend's life in danger. Lucy is a mild mannered woman who works in a flower shop. She worries a lot about Arden when he's out in the field, sometimes gone for days. Arden tries everything he can to protect her from the threat against her, but his enemies still manage to take her. I loved how this seemingly meek and fragile woman found the strength she needed to escape, even though she was scared out of her mind. This book shows the dangers that the loved ones of any law enforcement officer can end up facing. But I especially loved the romance between them. Most of the book is about Lucy's capture and escape, but the moments that Arden and Lucy do get are really sweet. I kind of wish that this book had been a longer full length novel. I would have loved to see some of the scenes more drawn out because there were times when I thought that the story progressed too fast. I'm hoping that the next book will be Ava and Tom's story. I'd love to know more about them.
So love to read intrigue with romance. This author gives you a good dose of it in this novel. Take a agent who is in love but also wants to shield her and protect her. Arden wanted to be away from the field before he would commit seriously to Lucy. It was just not to be the case though that his job would not touch their lives in some way. This is then how this author takes you down the road with these two. The danger will hit hard but Lucy is one tough cookie that as I was reading I do not think Arden really gave her the credit she deserved because of what she will accomplish. This is fast paced the action she has in this novel that once it starts it just flows right along keeping you the reader engaged which is good than you won't want to stray away. They each do whatever it takes because they love each other that much. When love is strong it will get you through a multiple of things. She will also wrap this up quite nicely with a good set of friends. They also then will be blessed with a different road to travel thanks to the love in their hearts.

While not my usual genre, this story really reeled me in wondering what would happen to Lucy, short but very well written. I'll probably end up checking out more of the author's work in the future when I want something different to read.

The combination of romance and suspense makes a delightful and captivating read. The characters of Lucy, a florist, and Arden, her DEA boyfriend, are engaging and adding in a few furry friends - her Siamese cats - makes a great story. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
From the beginning you can see how much the main characters love each other... Trouble follows DEA agent Arden Jones home and endangers his girlfriend Lucy. These two really pull you into their story. I really enjoyed seeing how things played out for them... Looking forward to seeing what is next in this series!
