Well, Anna Celeste had not only written another wonderful cozy mystery, based on the life of Jessica Huntington, but a book full of thoughts that keep you guessing. I know that there is a lot of sad and confusion surrounding the death of Jessica's friend, who was more like a sister, but it also makes you take a good look at yourself and those around you. Kelly's case went cold, but her family needed some type of closure, which Jessica have to them, though the circumstances were tragic. Jessica had to endure the same torture that had friend did in order to finally make Kelly rest in peace. I really felt that Anna told more of a story than just a another mystery. Kelly was a daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, who never reached our for help, which is a lesson that is happening all over the world today! We all have problems, but we need to trust those around us, and know that there are people who love and care about us. This is the message I took away from this book. I loved the quote from Anna at the end, "Life is an extravaganza! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge." How very true this is!

Now, on a lighter side, who will Jessica fall for? Will it be Frank or Phil! This I can't wait to find out! I could almost feel the emotions Jessica felt each time she hugged Frank! We shall see 😉

I'm a new fan of Anna Celeste Burke's cozy mysteries, and like the others I've read thus far, A Dead Sister grabs you on page one and doesn't let you go. I opened my late in the evening to read a little bit, and wound up reading over half the book before forcing myself to stop. First thing this morning, I jumped back into it, and just completed it.
Beginning with an eye witness who comes forward to shed fresh light on the death of her friend, Kelly, Jessica Huntington enters a tale of abduction by murderous kidnappers, who caused the death and made it appear as a hit and run accident. From this point forward,Jessica is determined to find out who would commit such a heinous crime, and why. Naturally, her own life soon becomes jeopardized.

Even with an unfortunate revealing, A Dead Sister remains uplifting due to memorable characters who readers attach to and care about. Several characters from Burke's previous novel, A Dead Husband, reappear, and bring not only smiles, but a sense of hope for Jessica - who grows into a more formidable character. I appreciated Burke building the emotional insight of her lead character and look forward to more stories involving Jessica Huntington.

For me, being subliminally educated while reading entertaining stories is vital, thus I enjoyed learning new info and feeling like I'm was in the same city alongside this great cast of characters. Burke's complex yet compelling novels contain various twists and turns, albeit this novel is a bit darker. Sometimes people aren't who we believed them to be...
A Dead Sister is the second book of the series and the second that I have read, while both books are excellent this one is more emotional and has less humor and I think is a little stronger. Ms Burke spends some time allowing us to get to know Jessica and her background which will a little slow helped me connect with her. She is extremely wealthy and every comfortable with that wealth. I do not identify well with the kind of life she leads so the extra time was worthwhile.
Her best friend in high school was killed in what had been declared a hit and run accident 15 years earlier; now there are indications that Kelly's death might have been murder. Jessica can not imagine what in the life of that volatile nineteen year old could have led to her murder. Although Jessica's experience as an environmental lawyer has not prepared her for investigating crime, she and a group of friends feel compelled to looking into her late friends life.
I received a gift card to purchase one of Anna Celeste Burke's books during a Facebook release party in exchange for an honest review. Since I had recently read A Dead Husband, I chose A Dead Sister and greatly enjoyed both.

It has been more than 10 years since Kelly's death and there had been no closure for the family. Under the watchful eye of Bernadette, her mother's estate manager, Jessica and her friends, informally known as the Cat Pack, get to work on the information. Thanks to the magic of Jessica's Black AMEX Card, she has a security firm on retainer, an inside track with three police departments, Laura's hospital connections and the unswerving loyalty of friends in her new law office position. Things quickly heat up with missing witnesses, dead bodies and clues leading to a prominent music producer!

The action is nonstop, the writing flows smoothly, the characters are wacky, lovable, funny and endearingly human! What more could you want in an entertaining adventure that has you laughing hard while sitting on the edge of your seat. A must read for both mystery and cozy fans.
